Our name defines our purpose: TOAG provides Training (learn by doing) for Ordinary (non-seminary) Apprentices (who
treasure Jesus) to Go (with a team to launch reproducing Jesus-communities among the unreached). Whenever possible, TOAG
interns live together in one community. As a group, you learn values, goals, and skills needed to spark Jesus-community movements among people groups who have not yet heard the good news.

This is the 10th year of TOAG’s existence. This experiment continues to change, improving year by year. Still maturing, we are
equipping interns to bring the light of Jesus to some of the world's darkest places.

About TOAg titling

Training Ordinary Apprentices to Go is…what she has always been…
an EXPERIMENT, a desperate attempt:

To equip affluent, institutionally nurtured, comfort and security loving westerners
who will eventually work abroad to live and love like Jesus until joyful, reproducing
Communities of God’s Kingdom fill some of the most unwelcoming places on earth.

To learn, interns must do. Training Ordinary Apprentices to Go is all about first living over
here what we must eventually live over there. And so we are a Jesus Community rather than
merely learning about church. We share Jesus Stories, we don’t memorize Bible verses.
We don’t just study the Qur’an; share what we have learned as a bridge to help our Cousins
(Muslims) cross into the Kingdom. We learn a little about Mohammad and Islam and
we enjoy hours of dialogue each week with Mohammad (or Miriam), our Muslim neighbor and
friend. We’re taught a simple inductive Bible Study method (takes ~ 30 minutes); then we
inductively study the Bible daily for the next year, and we fast and we pray, and practice other
spiritual disciplines, and grow to be like Jesus. In fact, we develop a personalized Curriculum for
Christlikeness and we use it to help us become like the One we treasure. Sure, we read about
mosques that become ‘Kingdom Mosques;’ but we also visit mosques with our Muslim friends
and study their Qur’an and our Bible, etc. etc. After all, we are preparing interns here to live
the Ways of Jesus over there.

We figure that, to advance the Kingdom of Heaven, we must probably unlearn some of the
ways of our highly structured, rather expensive, staff intensive, slow to reproduce western style
churches, the only church we have ever known. And, we figure we must also relearn the
forgotten ways of former days when the early believers exploded from 20 thousand to
200 million in a couple centuries. We must keep experimenting till the DNA flowing through
the church in China flows also in our veins, till God can use us to incubate millions of Jesus
Communities not just in China, but among every people on earth.

Training Ordinary Apprentices to Go is not a school. No intern will write an exam, receive
a grade or earn a degree. But interns will learn! They will learn to follow the Ways of Jesus now
and be ready to do so while living and working overseas. Our 10-12 month, after-hours intern-
ship has three core passions and we are blood-earnest to provoke all three in those we intern:

      a passion for Jesus,
a passion for His Kingdom and
a passion for going strategic … in that order.
