FAQ titling

What is the 'Training Ordinary Apprentices to Go' Internship?
The acronym (pronounce it “tow-ag”) defines our purpose “Training Ordinary Apprentices
       to Go.”
Since her inception in 2000, more than 200 interns have been trained for effective,
long-term living overseas. Each year, 10-20 new interns band together to cross cultural
barriers and welcome others into the Kingdom of Heaven. The 14 hours/week

after-hours internship allows them to keep their full-time jobs or attend school. To view a
schedule of a typical TOAG week, click here.

      Where is the apprenticeship held?
The internship is based in the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area, but TOAG has satellite
internships in Atlanta, Iowa City, Sacramento and Detroit, Michigan. Internships in Canada
and Arkansas may begin soon. Churches and organizations wishing to use the TOAG
curriculum in their own setting are encouraged to first send someone through TOAG.
In addition, we provide three day, 3T Workshops (Training of Trainers) when needed.

Why do I need training before serving overseas?
How many zealous Christians have made the costly decision to forgo family and friends to
head overseas …only to discover too late that they lack both the skills and the passion for
apostolic living in difficult places around the world? Without a driving passion for Jesus,
       we become ‘salesmen’ for our foreign religion rather than lovers of the Kingdom of God;
without a commitment to advance righteousness and justice along with reconciliation
between God and man we often end up recruiting for mere western Christianity rather than
sharing the Good News of the Kingdom.
TOAG is blood-earnest about three core passions: a passion for Jesus, a passion for His
Kingdom, and a passion for going strategically to places where Jesus Communities are not…
yet. Previous generations might have been afforded the luxury of promoting “church and
Christianity.” Today’s unreached have often been so wounded by Colonial Christianity and
so oppose the western church, this next generation of Jesus' followers simply must return
to the ways and message of Jesus, the Good News and the power of the Kingdom of God
(Matthew 4:23, 9:35). During TOAG, interns learn to be a Jesus Community without
Western structures that often hinder movements. They experience life-in-community
with other believers, something more akin to the Book of Acts. By taking a short sabbatical
from present church structures, which include powerful (& professional) music, well crafted
homilies (by seminary trained clergy) in safe, comfortable surroundings (church buildings),
interns experience first-hand what is and is not required for believers to be a “Jesus-
Community,” building simple, organic ‘structures’ capable of reproducing into movements.
Working in teams, interns learn to ‘gossip’ about Jesus with others, while always striving
themselves to become like the One they so joyfully represent. These are just some of the
reasons why many Americans benefit from the hands-on learning experience of TOAG.
